California State University Placement Standards

Academic Preparation is important for college success at the California State University (CSU). All CSUs use Multiple Measures to determine student placement into general education written communication and mathematics/quantitative reasoning courses through the following:

  • Assessment Tests (CAASPP-EAP, ACT, SAT, AP)
  • High school grades (Weighted GPA and Math GPA)
  • High school coursework

The California State University system recognizes the importance of high school coursework that supports placement into college-level coursework and recommends the following coursework for all California public High Schools.
